Summary | 0001667: Generic MIDI Control surface consumes too much CPU
Description | Since upgrading to ardour 2.0.2 (from 2.0-rc1), I've noticed a significant increase in CPU consumption, even when ardour is "idle" (i.e. not playing or recording anything), and on my heaviest projects this now causes ardour to stop playback/recording every 0000009:0000005-10 seconds. ("The disk system on your computer was not able to keep up..." By disabling the "Generic MIDI" Control Surface (Options->Control Surfaces->Generic MIDI), the CPU usage drops down slightly to a more manageable level again, and I do not experience the frequent dropouts anymore. Optimally, turning this (idle) surface on/off should have no effect on CPU consumption at all, so obviously there should be some room for optimization there.
Additional Information | jack setup: 96kHz buffersize: 256 * 4 The project I'm having problems with: 24 tracks, 6 buses 0000014:0000008 LADSPA plugins AMD Athlon 2GHz, 1Gb RAM Ardour2 updated and compiled from 2.0-ongoing branch today (2007.05.11).
