| Summary | 0010443: Import Window - Single drag causes window selection | ||||
| Description | If user wants to open the `Import` window to drag and drop one single file at a time into the Editor, currently it is a little difficult to do so. Standard behavior in most file managers is to allow this to occur, therefore by habit it is expected. However, when this action is performed, the `Import` window is designed to apply a windowed selection rectangle instead. User instead has to single click on that item and then wait and single click again (because if double click it will add to project) then drag that file into Editor, which is strange. I do like file managers that provide this window based selection feature. However to me it would seem that a single item drag and drop would probably be the more common action performed as opposed to windowing multiple samples at the same time. -The desired files user would want to drag would all have to be together in a list one file after the other in order to make use of this windowed selection. -User would also be able to select multiple items using common keyboard modifier keys+mouse/keyboard. Suggesting to modify the behavior of this selection window functionality, to allow for this standard single drag and drop action to be performed. I have seen file managers handle this selection window in multiple ways but I will mention 2 suggestions. -Allow the windowed selection rectangle to only activate in the blank space to the right of the filenames. Allow user when they hover mouse over the actual filename it allows that single file to be d&d. Or -Only allow the windowed selection rectangle to activate when applied in the columns other then the name column (which Ardour already currently does apply selection from them).
