| Summary | 0010294: Metering point doesn't switch to "In" while recording | ||||
| Description | I ran into a couple weird occurrences while recording where my mix window track meters weren't working while recording. (The corresponding track meters in the record window were also not working.) I was surprised that this happened on more than one occasion, but I couldn't figure out why. It seemed a bit random. My understanding of the metering points is that, in general, they switch to "In" when you record-arm a track, and they switch to "Post" while playing. I also note that, if you switch the metering points manually, that sometimes overrides the automatic switching. But I don't change the metering points in general, so that shouldn't be an issue. However, I was finally able to reproduce this situation on tracks without having touch their metering points. To reproduce it, I have to close the session with the inputs record-armed, and then re-open the session and hit 'play'. That's a rather special circumstance, but it seems that ardour is losing track of state, and so perhaps if it happens here, it can happen in other circumstances. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | 1. record arm tracks 2. record some audio 3. leave the tracks record-enabled, then quit ardour 4. fire up ardour and open the previous session 5. hit 'play', then 'stop' -- at this point, the metering points (in my case) are set to "post", despite the fact that the tracks are record-enabled. 6. record -- track meters in the mix window (and record window) don't work | ||||
| Additional Information | The input meters in the record window always work. I don't think I'm overlooking a preference somewhere, but I wouldn't rule it out. Video showing this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhFS1OMG9Uc | ||||

In working to reproduce this, I've actually had the same thing happen with just a subset of the tracks. Some meters switch to metering point "In", some stay on "Post". It's a little baffling. |

Have you manually changed the meter point in the past? if so that setting will remain. |

The steps above work for newly created tracks with no manual changes to the meter point. In the video, I add brand new tracks to an empty session, arm them, restart ardour, and the meter points get out of sync as soon as I hit 'play'. It seems as though there's a change in state that happens when you arm a track that doesn't happen if you open a session with a track already armed. As I mentioned in the video, I know that this method of reproducing the situation is pretty specific (opening a session with tracks already enabled), but I'm guessing I've done the same thing before. |
