| Summary | 0010234: Stopping the audio engine and then clicking a route selector produces a dialog box that could be improved | ||||
| Description | The dialog box in this case says "The current operation is not possible because of an error communicating with the audio hardware." While technically correct, it seems like the message could be better in this case. The engine was stopped by the user, so just say that. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Audio Midi Setup Click Stop Go to an input or output route selector and click it. | ||||

The more common issue is that the audio engine died: * user unplugged cable * too many x-runs (ALSA disconnects) * JACK disconnected Ardour because it took too long to process etc; * Laptop woke up from suspend/resume * Apple headphone jack connected while engine pervously used Coreaudio speakers * ... "The engine was stopped by the user" is only one of may possible causes. How about: "The audio engine needs to be active for this operation. See Menu > Window > Audio/MIDI Setup." |
