Summary0009014: Feature request: MIDI Note Chase
DescriptionA feature to improve MIDI editing by a mile, would be what's called MIDI Note Chase in Bitwig.
This feature makes it possible to listen to MIDI regions without having to start from the beginning.
Let's say you have a 4 minute long drone with a melody playing on top. When editing this long piece or soundscape, we now have to start from the beginning every time to hear what it sounds like. Or export/import along the way, but both these methods are really time consuming.
And Bitwig, maybe others aswell – I've only just heard of this feature, has made a solution where you can start in the middle of a MIDI note and listen to it from there.
Like this: https://youtu.be/4YgAttybw9Y?t=89

This would be such a great improvement for MIDI editing.

We plan to implement this in the near future. However, it is worth noting that there are some mildly tricky design judgements that need to be made. Some sounds have a very different attack than their sustain sound, and having the note literally start up in "the middle" will give different sonic effects than if it had actually been playing for a while.

Thanks for pointing out the trickyness and inaccuracy of it. And nevertheless: After reading your reply, I think I do love you just a little.
Thank you so much!
