Summary0002322: Crash on playback (2.4.1)
DescriptionThis is with ardour 2.4.1 (that version wasn't an option in mantis).
So far I only get this with one session, but it happens consistently with that session:

- start Ardour
- load the session
- press play --> segfault

Additional InformationThe session in question was originally created with ardour 0.99.something, and was later opened and saved with ardour 2.0.something. Sometime around then, I used a script to update all the Insert tags in the file, to fix broken references to CAPS plugins. The session worked fine in 2.0 after that.

I'm now running ardour 2.4.1 and had not opened this session in quite some time.

I'm running gentoo linux on an amd 64.
Jackd version 0.109.2.

By the way, if Taybin ever wants to play with one of my crash reports, I'm still living in Prospect Heights.

I can confirm this bug in Ardour 2.4.1, it only affects older sessions (maybe 0.99 or earlier). These old sessions worked fine in Ardour 2.0, so there's been a regression. I will test if Ardour 2.5 fixes it and will report back.

Any news on whether this is fixed in newer versions?

I am still unable to load the session in question. Ardour doesn't segfault though, so that's an improvement :)

I have other sessions from around the same time or even older which load fine.

If anybody wants to play with it, the session can currently (2010-04-26) be downloaded here: http://slinkp.com/~paul/beehead.tar.bz2
... but I will probably remove it at some point as it could easily kill my server's bandwidth allotment! It's about 2 GB bzipped.

Due to use of full paths in the session file (ugh), you'll probably need to temporarily put it at /mnt/disk2/pwstuff/Unshared/ardour_sessions/beehead/
to avoid ardour complaining about files not being found.

I tested this with the ubuntu 9.10 .deb package of:
Ardour/GTK 2.8.2
(built using 5396 and GCC version 4.4.1)

When I first start Ardour I see this in the "Ardour - Log" window:

"
[ERROR]: AudioSetup value for inputdevice is missing data
[ERROR]: AudioSetup value for outputtdevice is missing data
"

On attempting to load the session in question I see an error dialog with this text:
"Session "/home/pw/morestuff/ardour_sessions/beehead (snapshot IT'S REALLY MIXED Thu Apr 27 21:07:51 2006)" did not load successfully
Click the Close button to try again."

And the "Ardour - Log" window won't let me select the text, but it
contains this (re-typed):
"

[WARNING]: XML node for Location has no ID information

The complete console output is:

Can you perhaps upload just the *.ardour files from the session directory somewhere?

Err. Good idea. This is the one I'm trying to load:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1667146/IT%27S%20REALLY%20MIXED%20Thu%20Apr%2027%2021%3A07%3A51%202006.ardour

And here are all the session files from that project; there were several snapshots:
